Listen Up: Perfection Is An Illusion

Perfection is an illusion.  Some fake it better than others, but it is still an illusion.  Trying to obtain an illusion will leave you grasping at the wind, chasing a dream and crashing into reality. Yet so many of us strive for the unattainable and an be so hard on ourselves when we don't reach it. Ascribing blame when there should be none. Further damaging sometimes already fragile egos.

Imagine if we changed the way we saw mistakes?  Instead of seeing them as proof of our own incompetence, they were viewed as badges of honor.  Proof that we are brave enough to try. Fearless enough to believe that our own ability is enough.

Listen Up: It's National Stalking Awareness Month

It's National Stalking Awareness Month!

Stalking is a course of conduct directed at a specific person that would cause a reasonable person to feel fear.

Stalking is illegal in all 50 states and is serious, often violent, and can escalate over time. Know what stalking looks like. Some things stalkers do....

1. Follow you and show up wherever you are.

2. Send unwanted gifts, letters, cards, or e-mails.

3. Damage your home, car, or other property.

4. Monitor your phone calls or computer use.

5. Use technology, like hidden cameras or global positioning systems (GPS), to track where you go.

6. Drive by or hang out at your home, school, or work.

7. Threaten to hurt you, your family, friends, or pets.

8. Find out about you by using public records or online search services, hiring investigators, going through your garbage, or contacting friends, family, neighbors, or co-workers.

9. Posting information or spreading rumors about you on the Internet, in a public place, or by word of mouth.

10. Other actions that control, track, or frighten you.

Whether you have a few minutes, a few hours, or a few days, you can educate yourself and your community about stalking during January, National Stalking Awareness Month. Take this short quiz to see if you may be being stalked and what to do and/or review a stalking fact sheet, and a whole lot more at:

Listen Up: Being You

Being You

I have some life words for you to walk with today...Being You...

Always know that being able to be yourself around any and every one is very important in life.  If you ever feel like you have to pretend, downplay your feelings, or just be someone else and not your natural self around a person or certain people, know that this is a sign of a controlling environment and not a healthy one.  Altering your feelings, who you love, and self-expression to make someone else happy is taking away from you being you.  You have to always be able to be yourself and express your feelings and what's important to you in YOUR life without the pressure of anyone being mad, alienating you, etc.  "Being you" is crucial to who you turn out to be in life and ultimately a huge part of YOUR happiness.

Listen Up: You Are In Charge Of Your Happiness

I want you to remember that you are in charge of your happiness.  When you wake up in the morning, it is YOU that will put a smile on your own pretty face and keep it there all day.  Don't let anyone steal your joy! Remember all of the things that you have to be happy for and appreciate in your life.

Unfortunately in life, the saying holds true, "misery loves company" and people who are unhappy want others to be unhappy too, but don't let that negative energy in your circle.  Start and end your day with a smile on your face and a happy heart always and remember to keep your circle filled with positive people.  Have a day just as beautiful as YOU are.
